Prestigious national quality awards have been awarded to an outstanding North East Lincolnshire school.

Healing School has retained its gold Investors in People, given to highly-rated employers, and also been handed a Quality Mark Award for its efforts to improve pupils' progress in reading, writing and maths, particularly those with special educational needs.

The latter award has been developed by leading education charity Achievement for All (AfA), which offers support programmes to schools and settings to help them improve outcomes in the lowest-achieving 20 per cent.

Its gold Investors in People award followed a two-day assessment during which 24 members of staff were asked about their role, as well as training and improvement opportunities, management and communication, good practice and the general ethos.

Principal Mark Knapton was pleased with the recognition.

"These are prestigious national awards, one demonstrating our commitment to our staff and the other to all our pupils," he said.

"They are evidence of our efforts to continually improve across every aspect of the academy.

"There are great opportunities for staff here, wherever they work, and we believe we offer our pupils the best possible education. Our Ofsted outstanding rating provides further proof of that.

"We are constantly striving to improve and the processes undertaken to achieve these awards serve to keep us on our toes and raise standards further."

External assessor for IiP Jeff Law said he had received "excellent feedback" from staff and highlighted their commitment and loyalty to the school and the opportunities for development and continuous improvement.

A spokesperson for Achievement for All, said: "We are thrilled to present Healing School with this much-deserved award.

"They have shown a high quality of leadership and teamwork, and most importantly, the target groups have made more than expected progress and are closing the gap with their peers.

"Achievement for All believes that every child can progress, and through our programmes we hope to enable every child to be the best that they can be regardless of background, challenge, or need.

"Huge congratulations to teachers, parents, carers and children at Healing for all their hard work."
