Healing Pupils Travel To Borneo With Camps International Expeditions
This summer, 14 pupils from Healing School, took part in an exciting volunteering expedition in Borneo. The pupils had spent the past year fundraising for the month long trip, which took them through the Borneo jungle to assist in local community projects and have the experience of a lifetime.
After taking a couple of days to settle in, the pupils took a 5 day long jungle trek, learning camping skills and picking tea at the Sabah Tea Plantation. They then made their way to Camp Tinangol in the north and enjoyed a warm welcome from the local community and enjoyed interacting with the children.
At camp Bongkud, the pupils helped in the construction and development of the local kindergarten and enjoyed watching handicraft techniques and joined in with an evening of local music and dancing! The highlight of the trip was a visit to the Sepilok orangutang sanctuary where pupils had the opportunity to see the orangutans in their natural habitat and learn more about the conversation and eco work undertaken at the sanctuary. The month long trip went quickly and everyone enjoyed a final meal with the new friends they had made.
The pupils were enthusiastic and caring and proved to be excellent ambassadors for Healing School. We wish them well in their futures.
