Fun Event Produces Results

The Year 7s and 8s at Healing who participated in the Literacy World Cup.

World Cup-themed activities proved a winner at Healing School.

The three-week Literacy World Cup engaged 25 Year 7 and 8 students and included lunchtime sessions on media and match reports, 'dream team' discussions and debates, alongside a quiz and even a table football competition.

The event concluded with a World Cup party, which involved a football competition, a buffet and watching two games.

Principal Ann Addison said: "The English department's innovation is to be applauded.

"There was 100% attendance for all sessions from the 25 students across the three weeks which was extremely pleasing to see."

She congratulated Jack Hancock (Year 7) and George Powles (Year 8) who received trophies after winning their respective events.

Owen Playford finished as Year 7 runner-up with Archie Webb third.

In Year 8, runner-up was Owen Ware and Harry Mackenzie was third.

"A very well done to all the boys who took part. They engaged extremely well in the event and were a credit to themselves and Healing School," said Mrs Addison.

"A huge thanks to all the staff who made the event possible, particularly Mrs Baxter and Mr Close who were there all evening for the World Cup Party.

"The event was a lot more successful than England's World Cup campaign!"

Owen Playford enjoyed it because his two favourite subjects, English and PE, were involved.

"We also did a quiz which I got 22/25 on which I was really happy about. I wish to do something like this in the future," he said.

Year 7 winner Jack Hancock said: "I found it really fun and I enjoyed the English part of it, including the spelling quiz."

And Owen Ware said it had been a "brilliant" event.

Those participating were Year 7 students - Jay Pauley, Archie Webb, Kieron Patrick, Fionnlagh Moorcroft, James Raynor, Owen Playford, Jack Hancock, Ben Smith, William Gale , Josh Ringrose, Freddie Needham.

Year 8 students - Thomas Elliott, Harry Mackenzie, Owen Ware, Corey Nixon, George Maultby-Glen, Callum Dufton, Jordan Robbins, Ryan Grant, Connaire Moorcroft, Ryan Gibbs, George Powles, Thomas Armitage, Joe Patterson and James Godbold.
