Mrs Dewland's Weekly Blog - Week 4

Welcome to my blog.

I am sure that we are all reflecting upon what the Prime Minister said in his address to the nation last night.

We await detailed guidelines, but Mr Johnson announced the Government’s “ambition is that secondary pupils facing exams next year will get at least some time with their teachers before the holidays.” For Healing School, this reference applies to Year 10.

We assume that Years 7 to 9 will continue to learn through our online platforms established in the past few weeks and will not return until September, but the PM has not, as yet, referenced any other year groups in secondary schools.  We will therefore continue to monitor the government’s guidelines and updates.

If Year 10 pupils are to return before the end of the summer term, the safety of pupils and staff will, of course, be the top priority.

Parents with primary age children in current Year 6, who may return to their primary school in June, may be worried about their children coming to Healing School in September. Please be reassured that we are already working with feeder primaries to ensure as smooth a transition as possible.

I would like to thank parents for encouraging their children to complete the recent wellbeing survey, mentioned here last week. We have had an excellent response. We are analysing the results and will be supporting and responding to the issues raised.

Please look out for a special edition of our Healing Hotline newsletter, which will be published shortly. It will feature pupils at home who have learned or honed new skills and celebrate those who have been doing fabulous things both at home and in their community.  When we hear stories of what our pupils have been doing during lockdown, helping their families and others, it makes us feel very proud.

One of the events we would like to hear about is Friday’s 75th anniversary of VE Day. If you would like us to share your photographs on Facebook, please send them to, indicating that you give permission for the school to post them to social media.

If you have any concerns or need to contact a member of staff, please email and pupils requiring any support can email

Most importantly, as always, I hope you and your family keep well and stay safe.
